Summer Housing Search 2026 – Housing Availability and Applying Tips

All Kuopas studio apartments and family apartments have already been offered to applicants.

If you receive an offer for a family apartment, we recommend accepting it. We are not be able to send another family apartment offer later.

Apartments becoming available are currently being offered with tenancy agreements starting on 1 July 2026.

If you do not wish to accept an apartment starting on 1 July, you may decline the offer and remain eligible for future offers. However, please note that autumn is the busiest period of the year for student housing applications, and we cannot provide housing for all applicants.

At the moment, shared apartments offer the best chance of securing housing before the start of your studies. We recommend submitting as broad an application as possible and selecting multiple housing areas and apartment types.

You can submit a housing application as soon as you have accepted your study place in Kuopio.

Summer and early autumn are the busiest periods of the year for Kuopas. A large number of new students move to Kuopio in August and September, which means demand for housing is very high.

✔ Kuopas does not have a waiting list. Apartments are offered based on housing need, assets and income.

✔ An apartment shown in apartment search as becoming available may already have been offered to another applicant.

✔ Only report regular monthly income in your application.

✔ When applying for shared housing with a friend, both applicants must submit their own application.

✔ We cannot discuss or manage matters related to an adult applicant without their consent.

✉️ Check your application and email

Make sure your application is still valid and that your contact information is correct. Housing offers are sent by email, so remember to check your email regularly.

🏠 Expand your housing preferences

Select multiple housing areas and apartment types in your application. At the moment, the best chance of securing housing is to accept a room in a shared apartment.

📝 Submit a new application if necessary

If you would like to change your housing preferences, submit a new application. This will not affect your waiting time. Only one application can be active at a time.

If you decline a housing offer

If the offered apartment does not meet your needs, you may decline the offer. Your application will remain active.

Please note, however, that demand for student housing is extremely high for the autumn season, and another housing offer cannot be guaranteed. Future offers depend on how many apartments become available and how many applicants are seeking housing at the same time.

Can I get a studio apartment?

All studio apartments have already been offered to applicants. Individual studio apartments may still become available, but it is impossible to predict how many will become available.

There are a very large number of applicants seeking studio apartments, which is why we cannot offer a studio apartment to everyone.

If you apply only for a studio apartment, your chances of receiving housing from Kuopas before the start of your studies are currently very low.

When will I receive a housing offer?

Housing offers are sent as apartments become available. Unfortunately, we cannot estimate when an individual applicant may receive an offer.

Can I change a tenancy agreement starting on 1 July to begin on 1 August?

Unfortunately, we cannot change the start date of a tenancy agreement.

If you do not wish to accept an apartment offer starting on 1 July, you may decline the offer and wait for a possible future offer. However, another offer cannot be guaranteed.

Can you offer me an apartment shown as becoming available in the housing search?

Apartments shown as becoming available have often already been offered to another applicant. During the summer, we do not recommend applying only for individual apartments shown in the housing search, as apartments move quickly. Please submit as broad an application as possible.

What income should I report in my application?

Only report regular monthly income, such as salary.

Can I apply for housing together with a friend?

Yes. Both applicants must submit their own application and enter their friend’s name in the final free-text field of the application.
