Moving in Quick guide
Finally, it’s time for studies and moving into a student apartment – warm welcome!
Moving always involves a lot to remember and do – especially if it’s your first time moving into your own home! We have put together this Quick Guide for new tenants specifically to help make your move to a student apartment as smooth as possible. This guide covers collecting the key once the tenancy agreement begins, filling in the move-in inspection, checking the condition of the apartment, and other important matters to consider when moving.
Collecting the key
You can pick up the key from our office from 12:00 PM on the start date of your tenancy agreement or the following business day. If the start date is on a holiday or weekend, the pickup day is the following business day. You can also pick up the key later. Don’t forget to bring an ID with a photo.
Below is a table showing key pickup dates for 2024:
Please note that if the previous tenant is moving from one Kuopas apartment to another, they have until 4:00 PM on the first day of the month or the next business day. In the meantime, please move in and out by mutual agreement.
If you need to collect the key outside of office hours, you can get it through our 24/7 service for a fee of 70 € (by calling +358 (0)44 7640 760).
Remember that parking on the emergency lane is prohibited. The Kuopio City Parking Control handles supervision and fines for parking in the yard areas.
Key Instructions
You can get your apartment key from our office at Torikatu 15. Our office is open from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM and on the first day of the month from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM. For two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments, we give two keys; for single rooms and studios, one key. Additional keys can be obtained in special cases, such as if you live with a partner or a child. Do not make copies of keys yourself.
If you cannot pick up the key yourself, you can authorize someone else to collect it by sending us an email. You can also agree on key handover directly with the former tenant.
If you are picking up the key during a weekend or outside our office hours, please use the backyard door and ring the doorbell (asiakaspalvelu). See this map for guidance: Kuopas entrance map.
With your key, you can access common areas. The key is personal, and you should take good care of it. Instructions for storage rooms are in the storage room.
Please note that the doors to the rooms in shared apartments are locked. There’s an adjustment knob on the side of the lock case above the latch that allows you to set the lock to either lock or unlock.
Study certificate
Always remember to send your study certificate before collecting the key! You can send the study certificate to us by using our secure encrypted email portal. Those who change apartments within Kuopas must also send a study certificate or transcript of study records. Tenants can send certificates via OmaKuopas tenant page.
If you start in a new educational institution, a study certificate or other similar official certificate is sufficient, which shows your study rights at the educational institution. If you have already studied at your educational institution for more than a year, you must also submit a transcript of your study records together with your study certificate.
Complete the move-in inspection within 14 days of collecting your keys. Record any possible defects you find on the form. This ensures you are not responsible for any possible damage caused by the previous tenant.
If there are repairable defects in the apartment, always submit a separate Fault report for those issues! We don’t review move-in inspection reports until you move out.
If the apartment has not been adequately cleaned by the previous tenant, please call our maintenance service immediately so we can clean the apartment.
Rules of Order
Be considerate of your neighbors and follow Kuopas’s house rules, which ensure a pleasant living environment for everyone. Clean common areas regularly and keep your personal space tidy.
Read the Tenant’s guide for information on apartment maintenance and living in Kuopas.
Change of Address
Don’t forget to submit a change of address!
This update provides your information to the postal service and the national population register, maintained by the magistrate. Submit the change of address no earlier than one week before and no later than one week after moving.
Home Insurance
Home insurance is not mandatory, but it is recommended, as Kuopas’s property insurance does not cover personal belongings or personal damage.
Home insurance is a good way to protect against damage-related costs.
Parking Spaces, Sauna Turns, and Internet
You can reserve a parking space or sauna turns via email or by calling our office. For more information, read about parking, sauna and laundry.
To get started with the Internet, find instructions here: Internet, TV, modems.
Information regarding bus tickets and public transport schedules can be found from Kuopio region public transport’s (Vilkku) website.
